The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved a five-year renewal of Connecticut’s Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Section 1115 Demonstration. This renewal allows the state to continue providing SUD treatment services to Medicaid beneficiaries in institutions for mental diseases (IMDs) and assures that Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) beneficiaries diagnosed with a SUD are able to access SUD services furnished in IMDs. In addition, this renewal adds new authority that allows the state to provide coverage of certain pre-release services for eligible incarcerated individuals prior to release.
This approval is effective from April 1, 2027 through March 31, 2032. Today’s approval and other administrative documents can be found on the Medicaid.gov demonstration page.
