Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a State Health Official (SHO) Letter jointly developed by CMS and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This SHO provides guidance to states on the best practices for implementing the continuum of crisis services. It describes specific Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) authorities and flexibilities to support the full continuum of crisis response services and suggests strategies for measuring and monitoring crisis response services.
