What's Happening in Health IT In This Issue Happy Health IT Week! This week we brought the goods with the release of both the Interoperability Roadmap Version 1.0 and the 2015 Edition Health IT Certification Criteria Final Rule (please take a look at the resources about the rule). Thanks again to everyone who attended last week’s ONC 5th Annual Consumer Summit, we were happy to host it and hope to see you again next year! Release of the Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap, Version 1.0 The Roadmap (#InteropRoadmap) identifies near-term (i.e., by the end of 2017) actions and roles that health IT stakeholders should perform to make immediate progress on interoperability. It also emphasizes that we should use and build on the technology and investments made to date, while continuing to seek out ways to support innovation and move beyond EHRs as the sole data source for electronic health information to a wide range of health information technologies used by individuals, providers, and researchers. See the Roadmap for more information. To learn more, read the blog post from Acting Assistant Secretary for Health Karen DeSalvo, M.D., M.P.H., M.Sc., the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. #InfoBlocking and the Federal Anti-Kickback Law Read the guest post from HHS Inspector General Daniel Levinson about a policy alert the Office of Inspector General released earlier this week. "Information blocking impedes the appropriate flow of information across the care continuum and can undermine the benefits offered by health IT," HHS Inspector General Levinson said. New Hospital Health IT Adoption Data ONC is excited to share the 2014 data update to our non-federal acute care hospital HIT adoption open data. The update includes state and national estimates of electronic health record adoption, as well as health information exchange capabilities. The 2014 data update also includes state estimates of view, download, and transmit capabilities among hospitals, as well as, in its first year of collection, secure messaging capabilities among hospitals. The open data is available in CSV, JSON, and XML on the Health IT Dashboard, and comes with documentation for each data field. Also, be sure and check out the Hospital Health IT Adoption dashboard, which uses the exact data to visualize all these 2014 estimates for all 50 states.
