According to researchers from the NIH and CDC, and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, more than half of Asian Americans and nearly half of Hispanic Americans with diabetes are undiagnosed. Prevalence of diabetes for all American adults also increased, from nearly 10 percent to over 12 percent between 1988 and 2012. NDEP’s Guiding Principles contains a set of 10 clinically useful principles that highlight areas of agreement in diabetes management and prevention. Principle 1: Identify People With Undiagnosed Diabetes and Prediabetes outlines how to detect individuals with diabetes and prediabetes to facilitate appropriate early interventions.
