New Today in Health IT 2015 ONC Annual Meeting Good afternoon and welcome to Day 1 of the 2015 ONC Annual Meeting (#ONC2014).
Our theme for this year, Interoperable Health IT for a Healthy Nation, builds on the effort to help create a health delivery system that provides better care, spends health care dollars smarter, and results in healthier people. If you were not able to attend the meeting in person, please watch the webcast.
ICYMI, Friday we released the Draft Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap: Connecting Health and Care for the Nation: A Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap Draft Version 1.0. National Coordinator Karen DeSalvo, M.D., M.P.H., M.Sc. and others will be discussing it and how health IT can help us achieve a learning health system. The Draft Roadmap – which we encourage you to comment on by April 3 – will help us transform our health care system into one that is interoperable and uses health information to deliver better care, spend health care dollars more wisely and result in healthier people.
After a deep dive into how Big Data and Health Information can help to improve population and public health, at 10:30 a.m. ONC's Seth Pazinski, ONC's Director of the Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Analysis discussed the Health IT Strategic Plan with Barclay Butler, director of the DoD/VA Interagency Program Office.
We also had a panel to discuss technology that helps us share data titled: "Innovative Interoperability: Open APIs, Patient Engagement and Health Innovation." The focus of this panel was how we share data to better coordinate care for better health.
After the lunch break, there will the "Health Information and Delivery System Reform" session that focuses on the final element of the Health IT Strategic Plan: Use, and how the ubiquitous exchange of information can result in healthier communities.
At 2:45 p.m., Dr. DeSalvo (@KBDeSalvo) will be joined by Chris Miller of the Department of Defense and Veterans Health Administration's Interagency Program Office and other ONC leaders to discuss the Interoperability Roadmap.
Finally, at 4 p.m., Dr. DeSalvo caps off the day with a Fireside Chat with former Senate Majority Leaders Tom Daschle and Bill Frist of the Bipartisan Policy Center.
Thanks for joining us and we look forward to interacting with you as we discuss the next leg of our journey to nationwide interoperability!
We look forward tomorrow to hearing from Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, who will be speaking about the benefits of care when data is digitized and at the fingertips of providers.
